And as the author said, democracies by themselves are contagious because there is an intrinsic desire in our souls and spirits to be free. There is therefore no need for one country to embark on nation building exercise.

This does put to question whether the Iraq war to remove Saddam Hussien was worth it.

Democracies are contagious because there is a deep seated desire in the human spirit to be free, Great point. You can suppress a people but only up to a point. At some time, the need to be free will be greater than the fear of dying. I’m excited at what is happening across the continent.

There have been a handful of articles on TalkAfrique about the situation in Nigeria which although, ‘democratic’ has been dominated by one political party. It is very important that both the ruling party and the ‘opposition’ which doesn’t really qualify to be called so, anyway, sit down and and find a way to get the nation on track. Because as the author rightly said, “The call for freedom may not be immediate in non-democratic states but it can foment with time and explode with younger generations who feel disconnected from tradition and societal norms”
