You’re making a good point and I agree that foreign interference in African affairs has been a cause for so many problems and setbacks. But what you need to address first before tackling foreign interference is the ineffectiveness of the African Union of which you’re a member. It is the lack of leadership and decisiveness of the AU that leave a vacuum that if not filled quickly by an external body easily determinates into chaos and genocide. To use the Ivorian crisis after the election as an example, it baffles my mind why the AU couldn’t even make up its mind as to where it stands. Even after International observing bodies had unanimously declared that Mr. Outtara has won the election, the AU was still calling for both sides to exercise restraint, instead of calling out My Gbagbo to respect the will of the people. That is not leadership.
I wish that there no were international interference and African governments were left to manage their own affairs, but unfortunately, the AU which represents the continent has always been found wanting in the time of crisis. The problem I have with International bodies like NATO is their hypocrisy and selfishness; otherwise, I applaud them for stepping in to do what the African Union is incapable and unwilling to do.
