It is definitely a good idea to get contract research to the uiniversities, however our universities have to be well prepared to take up such a heavy task. This means, among others, highly skilled labor force, instrumentation and robust R&D, which are lacking in many universities in Africa. But Feli, it is a strong point you have raised and it is likely you have some good ideas on this issue . Why dont you pass on your ideas to us at (editorial@talkafrique.com) – as we are able to accomplish this task better together.

I work in a chemical company in UK. We’ve outsourced many of our activities to universities and start up companies in India and China. How can we get some of these research opportunities to universities in africa? Is the author going to discuss this in the future?

My idea behind this series of articles is to add value to existing knowledge in science and technology development in Ghana/Africa, and so we shall be exploring all avenues to get the message across. All suggestions to make that possible are welcomed.

Like you, I also believe that every discussion we have here, wether it’s on malaria, HIV/AIDS, education, etc should be followed by an appropriate action. We’re incapalbe of embarking on some actions immediately, but I can see the time coming. In the meantime, if you have any suggestion as to how we can make even more impact, please feel free to drop me an email. (editorial@talkafrique.com). You suggestion of preparing a memo from the education series for our universities it a great one. We will give it serious consideration.

Tue, 25 Jan 2011 02:29:22 +0000http://www.talkafrique.com/?p=6272#comment-481as far as ghana is concerned, it is the NDC that messed the system. The rushed and pushed throu a program that was not well thought of, just to get some political capital, and now we’re all paying for it

Mon, 24 Jan 2011 20:09:20 +0000http://www.talkafrique.com/?p=6272#comment-477It is sad that our Presidential candidates don’t even present thier science and tech agenda before we vote for them. We the voters don’t demand it and it’s a shame. Why not have a president candidate or a political party say that “Our goal is to make Nigeria, or Kenya or Botswan, member of the fast developing scientific and technologically progressive nations of the world and to be the Africa’s leader scientific and technological development in the next 15 years” and then show us the pathway with specifics to achieve that
