Becos when the univ sponsors students to go and do phd and other higher degrees outside, these people never go back home to help. so it’s the same old prof and old stuff that are left back home

Fri, 04 Feb 2011 20:03:22 +0000http://www.talkafrique.com/?p=6505#comment-533It is good point made about the idea of funding proposed research addressing address some of the key problems of our country. That’s how some countries east asia is making it. They made science local, and try to use science to solve local community problems, in agriculture, water production, health etc. That what we need to do. We don’t need to use our scarce resources studying some abstract thing.

If we need all our foreign players to play a soccer game, why not foreign scientist and engineers to develop the nation?

Wed, 02 Feb 2011 15:39:05 +0000http://www.talkafrique.com/?p=6505#comment-518You mention that Currently sources for funding R&D at the universities in Ghana mainly come from the government subvention. That is the problem. At this point in history, no serious academic institution can depend on funding for research. The universities have to be run as Business entities, partner with private corporations to raise research funds. Be independent from Government and determine their own course

While I’m on the internet here 24 hrs if I should say so, my friend professor can go for several days without even checking his email due to poor access to internet. How do we expect this professor to catch up with current news and trends in the world?
