Ghana U23 captain Samuel Inkoom says he has given US$10,000 to his team-mates for a “wonderful performance” in their defeat by Nigeria on Saturday.

The Black Meteors were beaten 3-1 by the Dream Team in the first leg of their All Africa Games qualifying tie.

The second leg is in Ghana in two weeks’ time and Inkoom says his side are determined to overturn the deficit.

“After the game I spoke to the players and told them it’s not over until it’s over,” he told BBC Sport.

“Ghana against Nigeria is like a derby game – they may have won but we are going back to Ghana to correct our mistakes.

“We need to buck up, but for a wonderful performance I gave [the team] 10,000 dollars from my own pocket.”

The Dnipro star, who was one of a number of players from the senior national team to be called up for the match, said his side still believed they could reach the finals in Mozambique later this year.

The motivation is there and you can tell everyone is happy in the camp

“This team is more like a family – we do everything together [and] we have a lot of experience in the team,” he said.

Meanwhile Sunday’s All Africa Games qualifier between East African rivals Kenya and Uganda fell victim to the weather.

The teams were warming-up ahead of the game in Nairobi when the rain started and the pitch was quickly flooded.

The teams will try again at 12pm local time on Monday.

Ghana Midfielder Derek Boateng Joins Ukraine’s Dnipro

Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has joined Ukrainian side Dnipro, signing a four-year deal.

The 28-year-old moves from Spanish side Getafe for a transfer fee of US$8.5 million.

Boateng was being courted by English side West Brom but opted for Dnipro in search of European competition.

“I was in London last week to speak to a Premier League side but the deal with Dnipro gives me the chance of playing in Europe,” Boateng told BBC Sport.

“It is the reason why I chose Dnipro and I know they are an ambitious club and I am also ambitious.”

Dnipro signed the Ghanaian to augment their squad ahead of their participation in a Europa League play-off.

They finished fourth in the league last season and Boateng is confident he can win laurels in Ukraine.

Boateng joins his Black Stars team-mate Samuel Inkoom at the club, coached by former Tottenham coach Juande Ramos.

Boateng played 36 matches in his two-year stay with Getafe, scoring two goals.

He has played for several clubs in Europe including Greek side Panathinaikos, FC Cologne, and AIK Solna of Sweden.

Ghana Striker Asamoah Gyan Says he is Staying at Sunderland

Gyan made 33 appearances for Sunderland last season

Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has rejected reports linking him with a move away from Wearside, saying he is “fully committed” to the club.

“I am not leaving Sunderland and I am not interested in these rumours in the newspapers and the internet,” Gyan told African website MTNFootball.com.

The Ghanaian scored 11 goals in his debut season on Wearside last term.

Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn recently described reports suggesting Gyan was for sale as “embarrassing”.

“I am fully committed to Sunderland because I love the institution and traditions of this club,” Gyan added.

“I am staying at Sunderland next season and the foreseeable future as I am looking forward to meeting my team-mates and Sunderland fans when we return next month.”

Gyan is Sunderland’s record signing, having joined from French club Rennes for a fee in excess of £13m in August 2010.

The 25-year-old has endeared himself to Black Cats supporters with his enthusiastic style and some important goals, including an injury-time equaliser in the Wear-Tyne derby against Newcastle in January 2011.

I Will not Sacrifice Gyan for Crouch, Sunderland’s Bruce

SUNDERLAND’S ambitious bid to sign Peter Crouch has hit a major stumbling block, with Harry Redknapp wanting Asamoah Gyan in return.

The Tottenham manager has been tracking 25-year-old Gyan for months and with a new striker his priority, the Ghana international is on his hit-list.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce would love to take Crouch to the Stadium of Light, having failed to persuade him to move north two years ago.

However, he does not want to sacrifice Gyan to get him.

The charismatic African scored 10 goals in 31 games for Sunderland last term following an eye-catching World Cup and his club record £13m move from Rennes.

When Fraizer Campbell and Danny Welbeck were both sidelined, Gyan was the Black Cats’ only fit striker following Darren Bent’s January departure – until injury cut short his own campaign.

Bruce announced last month he is in the market for three forwards and even if he signs Liverpool’s David Ngog, he would still be short up front.

It would be a huge gamble to sell Gyan, even if it meant landing Crouch. And publicly at least, Redknapp insists he doesn’t want to lose the beanpole striker.

The White Hart Lane boss said: “Crouchy is a good player. I like him. He is a great lad and I love him as a fella. He is not one I’m looking to shift.

“We are looking to bring a striker in but he is not one of those that we are looking to sell, if we can help it.”

Sunderland are still negotiating a fee with Liverpool for Ngog, whose move is not linked to Jordan Henderson’s switch in the opposite direction.

Liverpool initially slapped a £7m price tag on the 22-year-old Frenchman, but it is thought he will eventually leave for less than half that.

The Black Cats are also waiting to hear back from Manchester United after tabling a £12m bid for John O’Shea, Wes Brown and Darron Gibson.

While Gibson is keen to move, O’Shea and Brown are waiting to see if there is interest from any other clubs.

Sunderland have also completed a permanent deal for Ahmed Elmohamady.

The winger spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light from Egyptian club ENPPI, making 38 appearances.

Sunderland activated a clause in the deal to buy him outright. Bruce said: “Ahmed has done well in his first season with the club and has shown plenty of potential. I think there is much more to come from him.”

Man City Doctor Denies Asking Kolo Toure to Take Tablets

Manchester City doctor Jamie Butler has been cleared of blame over Kolo Toure’s six-month ban for failing a drugs test.

Manchester City and Ivory Coast Kolo Toure

The 30-year-old defender was banned in May for using his wife’s diet tablets.

Toure had claimed City’s club doctor authorised him to take the pills – but a Football Association report disagreed.

It stated: “[Butler] never told him it was safe to use water tablets [and] he would unequivocally have said they were prohibited and should not be used.”

He has become obsessed with his weight and more particularly the appearance of his belly

FA report

The Ivory Coast international said he had been given the tablets by his wife and that he had shown Dr Butler the substance before taking it.

However Butler refuted this claim and the FA report added: “It was not suggested that Dr Butler was shown the medicine bottle with ‘water tablets x21’ at any stage.”

The documents added that Toure had regular issues with his weight, which led him to take slimming tablets.

“The context is that for some years KT [Kolo Toure] has had a problem controlling his weight.

“He has become obsessed with his weight and more particularly the appearance of his belly.”

Toure’s ban is backdated to 2 March, when his provisional suspension began.

He will be free to play for City from 2 September but is subject to a two-year period of target-testing that began on 26 May.

Jerome Boateng Wants to Leave Man City for Bayern Munich

Berlin-born Boateng wants a move back to his native Germany

Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng wants to return to the German league by joining Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old move to City last summer on a five-year deal from Hamburg but has become frustrated at Eastlands.

He wants to play at centre-back and not the right-back slot he usually occupies for City. He said: “It is all about whether I am released. I hope it works.

“Bayern are bigger than City, they are one of the top six teams in Europe. To play for them would be an honour.”

A stumbling block over any deal could be the fee for Boateng, whose first season at City was disrupted by injury and limited him to 24 appearances.

His last game for City was on 2 March in the FA Cup fifth round victory over Aston Villa.

Despite City going on to lift the Cup and qualify for the Champions League, Boateng is keen to leave in order to improve his international prospects with Germany.

“I would like to go to Munich. On my side everything is clear,” said Boateng.

“I have already told [City manager] Roberto Mancini that I want to play in central defence and not at full-back.

“Bayern have indicated I will play in the centre. To play there regularly is important for me because I will have a better chance of playing in the national team.”

Dutch Wesley Sneijder Pledges Future to Inter Milan

Wesley Sneijder Pledges Future to Inter Milan

Wesley Sneijder has moved to end speculation over his future by insisting he wants to stay with current club Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old playmaker has been mooted as a target for Chelsea and Manchester United but is set to remain at the San Siro.

“Milan is marvellous, picturesque and full of elegance. I love it,” Sneijder told the Inter website.

“At the moment I am very happy here and I don’t see why I should leave.”

The Holland international joined Inter in the summer of 2009 and played a major part in helping Inter win the Treble of the Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia in his first season.

The Italian club finished second in the league and got to the last eight of the Champions League during the last campaign, with their only trophy coming when they beat Palermo to win the Coppa Italia.

Sneijder, who scored four goals in 25 outings in a season hampered by injury, has a contract running until 2015 with Inter and his commitment to the club will disappoint potential suitors.

“There is a family atmosphere at Inter and there are all the ingredients to aim high,” added Sneijder.

Chelsea Offers Michael Essien To Inter Milan

Chelsea have shocked Ghanaian football fans after revelation in the Italian media that they have offered Michael Essien to Inter Milan for Wesley Sneijder.

Accoding to the report in one of the respected sports newspapers in Italy, Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has been offered TWO players by Chelsea for Wesley Sneijder.

Corriere dello Sport says Chelsea have made contact with Inter about a deal for the Holland international with key player Essien going in the opposite direction.

The Blues know they face competition from Manchester United for the Dutchman and hope to convince Moratti to part with the playmaker by offering players in exchange.

Chelsea have offered Florent Malouda and Michael Essien.

Moratti likes both midfielders, but will leave the final decision with coach Leonardo.
