[ad#Caricature-text2]

Nadia Buari

A survey conducted by a group Celeb for Cause in Netherlands and Belgium showed that 29% of Africans in the two countries who are following events in Africa think Nadia Buari is the hottest celebrity alive on the continent. Despite accusations in some circles that the actress is the most secretive of all stars, the folks who participated in the survey do not seem to care much about that. Her closest competitor came in at a distant 13%. All four Nollywood stars in the survey ended with single digits. This was not a scientific poll and the selection of the responders might not be representative of the African Diaspora in Europe.

So who is Nadia Buari?

Ms Buari was born in November 21, 1982 in Ghana to a Ghanaian musician Sidiku Buari. She obtained a degree in Performing Arts in the University of Ghana, Legon.

In the late 2005, Ms. Buari premiered on Ghanaian national television with the TV series Games People Play. Her first major film was Mummy’s Daughter. Later she also starred in Beyonce: The President’s Daughter. In fact, most analysts believe her role as Beyonce was her major breakthrough

. From the information available to me, Nadia Buari has starred in over 20 movies.

As at the last time I checked, the Nadia was dating Chelsea striker, Michael Essien.

(Please check for entire results next weekend. Results from a similar survey focusing only on Nollywood stars wil be availabe by Mar 17)

Peek-a-Boob: The Cleavage Trend and Decency

If you’ve got it, flaunt it’… goes the popular saying. But how much of what ‘mama gave you’ should you flaunt?

These days, exposing the cleavage and most part of the boobs seems to be the ‘in thing’, unlike the past when it was regarded as a taboo. It appears as if the ladies are playing a game of who can flaunt it the most. That is why on the streets, campuses, red carpets and at other public places, when you look around, there is always a cleavage display.

Because of this fad, those who are not even naturally well ‘endowed’ do not want to be left out of the game. Thanks to plastic surgery, breast enlargement and silicon padded bras for such ones, they have been able to follow this trend.

The truth is that, even if fashion evolves day in day out, fashion icons and image consultants believe that you don’t really have to show much to look good and be in vogue, though showing a little part of the cleavage without being vulgar has been accepted into the fashion world. This comes in the form of dresses with neck cuttings that gives the outfit a fitting, sexy look or make a style come out better.

No doubt, some single ladies believe that flaunting the cleavage stylishly with a necklace and pendant dropping at the centre of their boobs attracts a man’s attention? It serves as a signal to guys if the lady is really seeking attention. Some on the other hand claim to be comfortable with it.

Well, style actually means how you can express yourself. Would it not be better to be stylish and decent at the same time? The key is, marry decency and fitting into one outfit, that is roll them together before stepping out. You can look more classy, sophisticated and truly stylish by not revealing too much!

Having a little opening is not a bad thing; it’s the trend and most women look good in it. However, it needs to fit the occasion, your personality and body type

Check out these stars (spotted a recent event in Nigeria) that have decided to give us a ‘peek-a-boob’. Who do you think is the most revealing? And which are acceptable?

India Arie, Into Your Soul in Hebrew

On India.Arie’s last album, she blended a world music sound with her signature style of soul. She’s planning to take things to the next level on an upcoming CD with Israeli singer Idan Raichel.

“I always go different (and) I went even farther,” India.Arie said in a recent interview.

The album, “Open Door,” will be released this summer. It will feature songs in Hebrew and English, though India.Arie doesn’t know Hebrew, explaining that Raichel “teaches me the translation.”

While vacationing in Israel, the 34-year-old singer asked locals who the most influential political singer-songwriter was in town.

“Everybody said, ‘Idan Raichel, Idan Raichel — same name all the time,'” she recalled. “So I just went to his little apartment, I heard his music and was like, ‘That’s my music!'”

Raichel, the dreadlocked composer who uniquely blends Israeli, Ethiopian, Yemenite and Latin sounds, is mainly known for his role in the group The Idan Raichel Project. The Project has some 90 revolving members from Sudan, Uruguay, Colombia and Rwanda. They sing primarily in Hebrew, Spanish, Arabic and Swahili, and bandmates range in age from 16 to people in their 80s.

The Project burst onto the Israeli scene in 2002 and has released three successful albums.

India.Arie and Raichel, 33, can been seen in a YouTube video for their song, “Gift of Acceptance.” The two performed the tune in December at the Nobel Peace concert in honour of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo in Oslo, Norway. They also held special concerts in Los Angeles and Atlanta to promote the upcoming CD.

“People were crying and (there was) a lot of good feedback,” said India.Arie, who is also planning an international tour with Raichel.

“Open Door” will be the soul singer’s fifth CD. Her first three albums were multiplatinum, platinum and gold successes. But 2009’s “Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics” didn’t match her previous efforts, only selling 320,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Though the disc may — or may not — be a hit for the multiple Grammy winner, India.Arie says she’s not concerned with album sales, thanks to the encouraging support from family, friends and fans.

“My family especially, they’re like, ‘Oh my god India, why are you doing this? We don’t know who’s going to buy it,'” she recalled.

“My mom cries every time she hears the songs,” she continued. “…They kept saying stuff like, ‘This is you, but different. It’s almost like you can do anything, but it’s still you.

Size Matters, Innocent Shamima Muslim Wades into the Controversy

Female broadcast journalist of Citi FM and Metro TV

Female broadcast journalist of Citi FM and Metro TV, pretty-faced Shamima Muslim, has waded into the controversy of why some Ghanaian men are paying money to increase the size of their sex organs, commonly referred to as penis enlargement..

The issue became a topical one after a man was recently arrested and sent to court because he has a penis enlargement device which he claims he uses to elongate and fatten the penis for a fee so at to make it a better tool for good sex.

Shamima, on one of her radio programs on Citi FM, explained that in her view, some sizes of sex organs do really matter because they have a direct link to how good a round of sex can be. Simply put,  she agrees that size matters.
Her comments on the subject came as a surprise as Shamima is largely perceived as an exceptionally pious person that could pass for a catholic nun in a nunnery.
Richard Sky, a college of Shamima, took the issue up on his facebook wall and the feedback was overwhelming.

Interestingly, Shamima has since declined to comment further on the matter and the debate continues on whether or not it is a crime to have a device that enlarges the penis whereas it is not a crime to have devices that enlarge the arms and shoulders.

Nigerian Polygamist with 86 Wives to Sue Electoral Commission

The celebrated polygamist, Pa Abubakar Masaba, is heading for a showdown with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the police following allegations that members of his family, numbering over 5,000 were denied registration by suspected thugs in the just concluded voter registration exercise.

Our correspondent gathered that suspected thugs allegedly thwarted efforts by members of the Masaba’s family to participate in the voter registration exercise at a registration unit in Bida Local Government Area of the state.

Masaba is reported to have 86 wives.

It was learnt that the thugs specifically prevented INEC officials from registering the Masaba family and that security operatives allegedly refused to come to his rescue.

The lawyer to the family, Mr. Shehu Jubril, told our correspondent in Minna, Niger State, that over 10 hoodlums frustrated efforts of the Masabas to register.

He alleged that the thugs, led by one Gimba, created pandemonium in a registration unit close to Masaba’s residence as they stormed the area beating and wounding members of the family who had queued up to register.

He said the hoodlums overpowered officials of INEC and prevented them from registering Masaba’s family members.

He claimed that about nine members of the family were wounded by the attackers, lamenting that despite complaints lodged by Masaba to the police area commander, nobody was arrested in connection with the incident.

He accused the police of connivance and said Masaba had concluded plans to seek redress in court.

He said the development amounted to a breach of fundamental human rights and assault.

“The recent interview granted by the area commander in a local newspaper has however indicated that police have taken sides on the matter as he went on saying that the family has no business registering at their own Masaba ‘A’ polling unit”, he said.

When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Richard Oguche, he said he was yet to receive the report.

He said the district police officers would brief the command on developments in their various areas on Monday (today).

Also, INEC state Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdulmalik Wase, claimed ignorance of the development and said he knew nothing about Masaba and his family.

Does Your Partner Flirt

Flirting is a form of human interaction between two people, expressing a sexual or romantic interest. It consists of conversation, body-language or brief physical contact. It may be one-sided or reciprocated.

The origin of the word flirt is obscure. The Oxford-English-Dictionary (first edition) associates it with such onomatopoeic words as flit and flick, emphasizing a lack of seriousness.

On the other hand, it has been attributed to the old French “Conter fleurette”, which means “to (try to) seduce” by the dropping of flower leaves, that is, “to speak sweet nothings.”

This expression is no longer used in French, but the English Gallicism to flirt has made its way and has now become an Anglicism.

Flirting is often used as a means of expressing interest and gauging the other person’s interest in courtship, which can develop into a long-term relationship. Alternatively, it may simply be a prelude to casual-sex with no deep relationship.

In other situations, it may be done simply for immediate entertainment, with no intention of developing any further relationship. This type of flirting sometimes faces disapproval from others, either because it can be misinterpreted as more serious or it may be viewed as “cheating” if the person is already in a romantic relationship with someone else.

People who flirt may speak and act in a way that suggests greater intimacy than is generally considered appropriate to the relationship (or to the amount of time the two people have known each other), without actually saying or doing anything that breaches any serious social norms. One way they accomplish this is to communicate a sense of playfulness or irony.

Flirting may consist of stylized gestures, language, body language, postures and physiologic signs. Among these are:

1. Eye contact, batting eyelashes

2. “Protean” signals, such as touching one’s hair

3. Casual touches such as a woman gently touching a man during conversation

4. Smiling suggestively

5. Winking

6. Sending notes, poems, or small gifts

7. Flattery

8. Online chat is a common modern tactic, as well as other one-on-one and direct messaging services

9. Footsie, the “feet under the table” practice

10. Teasing

11. Chance meeting

While some of the subconscious signs are universal across cultures.

Good Growth Expected in Sub-Saharan Africa

[ad#amazon_120x240]Growth in sub-Saharan Africa may exceed growth in all other regions except developing Asia, the International Monetary Fund said.

“growth in sub-Saharan Africa — projected at 5.5 percent in 2011 and 5.75 percent in 2012 — is expected to exceed growth in all other regions except developing Asia,” according to a world economic outlook update released by the IMF.

“This reflects sustained strength in domestic demand in many of the region’s economies, as well as rising global demand for commodities.”

The release of the report took place in Johannesburg because South Africa is seen as a key emerging market economy, and is a member of the IMF and G20, said Caroline Atkinson, director of external relations at the IMF.

The fund was also taking “updates outside Washington to represent the global nature of our work”, she added.

The pace of recovery varied across the sub-Saharan region.

Growth was now close to the pre-financial crisis high in the low-income countries of sub-Saharan Africa. These countries had grown by over six percent prior to the financial crisis and were expected to grow by 6.5 percent in 2011.

“The recovery in South Africa and its neighbours, however, has been more subdued, reflecting the more severe impact of the collapse in world trade and elevated unemployment levels that are proving difficult to reduce.”

The IMF predicted growth of 3.5 percent for South Africa in 2011. This was almost in line with the SA Reserve Bank’s forecast of 3.4 percent growth in gross domestic product for 2011.

South Africa’s forecast growth is below the average of other emerging and developing economies, which were expected to grow by 6.5 percent in 2011, according to the IMF.

“… during the recent crisis South Africa’s financial system fared relatively well,” said José Viñals, financial counsellor and director of the IMF’s monetary and capital markets department.

Risks to the economy remained, because of the influence of the country’s major trading partner, Europe.

“The pace of recovery in Europe, the dominant trade partner for most non-oil-exporting countries in sub-Saharan Africa, is modest and uncertain.”

The IMF warned the “sharp pickup” in fuel and food prices could have a significant impact on non-oil-exporting countries in the region.

“Rising food prices are likely to affect the urban poor in particular, given the high share of food in their consumption baskets.”

Countries would have to counter this with social grants or “social safety nets” which they would have to find funds for.

Global financial conditions broadly improved in the latter half of 2010, although there were still “lingering vulnerabilities”.

Countries should also remain alert about inflation as there was pressure from rising commodity prices.

Olivier Blanchard, economic counsellor and director of the IMF’s research department, told the briefing that global economic recovery continued at two speeds — a slower rate for advanced economies and a much faster growth rate for emerging economies.

This could lead to “tensions and risks” which need strong policy responses, he said.

“With emerging markets now accounting for almost 40 percent of global consumption and more than two-thirds of global growth, a slowdown in these economies would deal a serious blow to the global recovery — and to the rebalancing that needs to take place,” the IMF warned.

Employers Can Tell Women to Wear Bras to Work, Court Ruling

German bosses can tell 'braless' women to stay home

Live in Germany and not following the news the past couple of days? Well, your job may be at risk.  According to a new court ruling from the State Labor Court in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany,  women in Germany have new rules on bras. Now bosses can regulate women in the country to wear bras in to work.

Bosses can also tell women how long their fingernails can be, and they can oblige her to keep them clean and well groomed.

Men don’t get off scot-free in this new Germany court ruling either. Men can wear beards at work, but their bosses can order them to keep it well trimmed and neat.

The case was about airport security personnel and what they dressed like. Interestingly, the court ruling will apply to all workplaces in the state in Germany.

Some of the requirements are commonsense but taken for granted. For instance, if you live in that state, and you want to wear a bright colored bra to work, then you better have an undershirt on to prevent it from shining through your shirt.

Do you think these new rules for workers in Germany about women and bras are too harsh?
