1. Asking only what your network can do for you
Networking shouldn’t about you but also about the folks in your network. It’s about reaching out and asking how you can be of help to someone.
2. Using a stock résumé
You’re busy but you need to make time to get someone’s attention. You can’t dip into your stock resume and grab anything and hope to get that attention. Résumés need to be tailored to specific positions.
3. Misusing social networks
Be careful about the use of social media. First of all, it’s important to know that the ‘language of social media’ is not is going to get you the job. Know the limit of informal language. Also know that these days, anything written or posted anywhere can be used against you anywhere, even in a law court.
