Exploring The Power of The Brain

One of the most exciting and complicated field of science is the study of the human brain. Recent research indicates that an individual is only able to fully utilize half of one percent of the brain’s capacity in his or her lifetime. Undoubtedly, the dynamics of the human brain remains a mystery to scientists.

The human brain

The report above reveals to a large extent the under utilization of the brain by humans which can be attributed to the frailty of the human species. Taking time to reflect on this should spark in you a desire to make the best use of this wonderful gift bestowed on the human race. Imagine the ‘brains’ behind the various inventions in the world of science and technology: computers, security gadgets, electronics, automobiles, nuclear weapons, medicine and so on. Despite these marvelous achievements in this jet age, it is challenging to know that just one percent of the brain’s capacity is utilized. So, we need to ask ourselves individually: am I fully utilizing the capacity of my brain? If measured after my demise, can it be said that I was able to use up to half of the one percent of my brain?

The Human brain is distinct in its design and makeup to that of other creations such as animals. As humans, our brain makes us reason on questions such as; WHY ARE WE HERE AS HUMANS; WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE; WHY DO WE DIE AND SUFFER AS HUMANS; DOES GOD REALLY EXIST? These questions and so many more are out of reach of the animal brain. Fundamentally, we as humans are created as ‘free moral agents’, whereas, animals are created to be guided by instincts. As free moral agents, we have the capacity to make decisions on our own without external influence, to be conscious of our actions either for good or bad, and to satisfy our spiritual desires all of which animals do not possess.

In what practical ways then can the human brain be put to its best use? I want to share three ways we can make the best use of the human brain.

The first way is what I will identify as ADEQUATE REST. The human brain as part of the human body needs adequate rest to be able to function properly. Many an individual takes this serious matter with levity or display a nonchalant attitude. Scientist have suggested that on the average, the human brain should be made to relax for about seven to eight hours especially during night rest when the brain is able to better coordinate its millions of neuron cells for full utilization. Due to the demands of modern society, many people hardly give adequate rest to the brain which in scientific terms represents an individual. People work from morning all through the night with little or no rest. Imagine one in such a situation tasking the brain with less than five hours rest per day, all through the year!! That is not only an abuse of this great ‘asset’, but also suicidal to such individual. Hence, it is vital to give the brain as much rest as possible on daily basis for its full potentials to be annexed by its host. This should not be left to chance; it is a must-do affair for our personal and social development.

The second way the brain can be best utilized is PRODUCTIVE THINKING AND MEDITATION. Thinking is the seed that germinates into an idea, which grows into innovation. Thinking in this context is not one that results out of our daily concerns and anxieties such as how to meet ends needs, how to meet deadlines on the job, or how to solve a personal or family challenge. However, productive thinking and meditation is one undertaken by an individual sometimes for days, months and even years to address or proffer lasting solution to societal problems or improve the quality of human life. Such productive thinking and meditation are responsible for the innovation of airplanes by Wright Brothers, Isaac Newton’s law of gravitational force, and so many others that have contributed significantly to human development especially in the areas of science and technology. Are such accomplishments out of the reach of anyone who desires them? Hardly will I say yes.

As individuals, it is imperative we conduct an honest appraisal on how we put our brain to use through productive thinking and meditation. Therefore, there is need for us task our brain productively. This we can do by taking time off maybe an hour or less in a day, if we appear too busy all the week, maybe an hour or two over the weekend to think and meditate productively on an area of human interest that needs to be addressed or improved upon. This will be made much easier if this productive meditation is done in line with an individual’s area of interest or strength in life. In other words, if your area of interest in life is in sciences, ask yourself; what aspects of my profession need to be improved upon? In what practical ways can I proffer lasting solutions to the identified challenges in my career? Care must be taken however, not to engage the brain for productivity when it’s not naturally inclined to be. There are moments the brain undergoes some processes unknown to an individual. Any attempt to engage the brain productively at such time will bear no fruit. Hence, draw up a number of problems you can identify around your area of specialization and take a quality time to meditate productively with the convenience of the brain in your quest to invent a lasting solution to the problem. Decades ago, malaria and Polio were thought to be ailments that had come to stay with humanity. Thanks today for the brains in medical science that have proffered lasting solutions to these deadly ailments especially in children. A good sanitary environment and effective anti malaria/Polio vaccines are available as remedies.

Finally, the brain can be put to good use through HEALTHY SOCIAL INTERACTION. By this, I mean the ability of an individual to effectively interact in all spheres of human life. This includes but not limited to the academics, social clubs, religion, professional career, associations and so more. When an individual is actively involved in one or more of these forums, the brain is intellectually engaged and this aids its development. The academia for example assists an individual to interact with like-minded people in the pursuit and advancement of a given profession. Such interaction involves making extensive researches, conducting surveys, amongst others. This puts the brain to good use and help in its development.

Therefore, I challenge all you readers of this piece who are yet to be conscious of the need to fully utilize the brain as addressed above to start the exercise. The brain is just like a tool that needs constant usage under favorable environment to work properly or be productive. When a tool such as a cutlass is not utilized by a farmer for days or months, it naturally starts deteriorating. The same principle applies with equal force to the human brain. By putting the three workable suggestions above to use, you might just be positioned to be the next person whose name appears on the Guinness world Book of records for your creativity and ingenuity.

Why I’m Optimistic About West Africa

Jennifer Buffett, Co-Chair and President of the NoVo Foundation
Jennifer Buffett

As I read reports of upheaval in North Africa and watch with apprehension as tensions reach their boiling point in Côte d’Ivoire, it may seem hard to be optimistic about the state of the world — but I am. I remain hopeful because I know that for every world leader who makes choices that hurt their country, there are millions of women and girls who, every day, and often without acknowledgment, are laying the foundation for progress within their communities.

I believe in a simple, bold idea: Women and girls have the power to lead their countries away from war to peace and prosperity. As I walked around the pock-marked, uneven roads of Monrovia, Liberia recently, I spoke with one powerful woman who reaffirmed my faith in this vision. Marian Rogers is a social worker with the International Rescue Committee who has dedicated her life to unlocking the potential of Liberia’s most vulnerable girls and women.

Marian is an example of the determination, resilience and strength that she seeks to inspire in others. After the tragic death of her parents when she was just 21, she single-handedly raised her five siblings while putting herself through school. Having overcome enormous odds, Marian is now working to tip the scales in favor of girls across her country. When she looks at a girl, she sees endless possibilities. As she told me recently, “that girl’s hands increase the growth of every community. If we all try to protect the rights of women and girls…the world will be a better place, free from violence.”

Marian mentors a dynamic group of 10-14-year-olds who call themselves the Caring Sisters. They live in Darquee Town, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Monrovia. I met with these girls in their local community center on a hot, sunny day last January and they spoke of the future. The girls were audacious and driven. They believe in a Liberia where they can contribute their skills as doctors, lawyers, and government leaders. With the support of foundations like my own — and the hard work of women like Marian — that future is within their reach.

Since 2007, NoVo Foundation and the IRC have been collaborating on Women & Girls Rebuilding Nations, a five-year $17 million initiative aiming to help West Africa recover from years of civil conflict by empowering women and ending the physical and sexual violence that prevents them from participating in — and leading — their countries’ reconstruction. We know that if we can help build a community where women and girls are safe and free to reach their full potential, then we can change the course of events in West Africa.

As I sat down with the girls from Darquee Town, it was hard to imagine talking about violence with a group so young. But sadly, I know that this is exactly the age to have this conversation because violence is already entering their lives. As Marian explains to me, “reaching them when they are still young is very important. It will help this girl to free herself from teenage pregnancy. It will help that girl to understand that she has a value.” She went on, “What we do within Caring Sisters is teach a lot of life skills. We want the girls to understand their own self-value. We want them to know that they are as important as boys. We want them to understand that no one has the right to take advantage of them because of their sex.”

Marian told me that when these girls grow up, they will bring a new style of leadership that is desperately needed in her country. Speaking about Liberia’s president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Marian emphasized the importance of women taking on positions of power. “Yes! It makes a lot of difference,” she said. “Before there were issues that were affecting women and girls that men’s leadership did not take into consideration. Let’s look at rape. Rape is one issue that was not considered important, when it happened before this woman’s government. They never had laws to ensure that perpetrators were punished. But then we rebuilt, and we established a special court to try rape cases. And then, most importantly, [the president] is really highlighting girls’ education. You see that from the number of girls that we have in school now, not only in elementary school anymore. We even see girls in colleges, in universities.”

In the next year, across Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Côte d’Ivoire, 400,000 young girls will turn 12, a critical age that too often closes the door to opportunity for girls in this part of the world. I think back to my own childhood and how the struggle for women’s equality that was occurring as I grew up changed not only my own path, but the path of my entire country. Over the past 20 years, women have been one of the most important drivers of economic growth in countries like the United States.

I know that if these girls are given a chance they can be that great generation that revitalizes Liberia. No region needs girls more than West Africa. In Sierra Leone, women have a one in eight chance of dying during childbirth; in Liberia, the unemployment rate is 80 percent; and in Côte d’Ivoire, women and girls are being raped and attacked by armed men in their own homes as the country returns to the edge of war. All of these countries are amongst the poorest in the world. Girls are the secret to reversing this tide.

Marian says that “every right goes with responsibility.” Looking across West Africa, I only wish that such a belief could guide the actions of every individual in a position of power. As Liberians take to the polls this year, and the people of Sierra Leone in 2012, I grow concerned about the future. But then I remember all those girls I met in Liberia who want to be president and my optimism returns. If one of them can succeed, I know she will bring her whole country with her.

Act Now: NoVo knows that girls are the key to a better future, yet rarely do they make it onto the radar of donors’ agendas. Less than half a cent of every international development dollar goes toward programs targeting girls. Tell the U.S. government that girls deserve more than 1 percent of our attention. The International Rescue Committee is leading a campaign, Wake Up, calling for our government to do more. Send a Wake Up call to your member of Congress today at Wakeup.Rescue.org and let them know that you want more U.S. support for foreign assistance that will give opportunities to girls across the world.

How to Overcome The Fear of The Unknown

In the world of business, it is only a fool that would work himself to death for someone else. It is true that one should strive to justify what one earns, particularly if one is an employee, but it would be suicidal for employee not to have a plan to be on his own at a point in life. This is because experience has shown that you cannot be richer than your employer, except if you are not 100% dedicated to your work or if you are cutting corners.

Some people work for security, while others work for freedom. This piece is not intended for those who work for security; it is targeted at those who are willing to take calculated risks in arriving at their desired destinations in life. Such people, I presume, know who they are and must be working consciously towards making it count in life. How can they make it count? This they can do by ensuring that what they know rubs off positively on others. That is why I say that it is not what you know that matters, but what you do with what you know.

Given that you know who you are, the challenge before you is to know what to do with it. It is not sufficient to know who you are, you must know how to maximize your God-given gift. What I have discovered is that if you do not want to lead, you are bound to be led. Put differently, if you do not want to be your own boss you will surely be bossed around by someone else. There is something in you that the whole world is waiting for. You only need to act on it as nothing moves until it is moved.

The greatest inhibition to taking one’s rightful place in life is fear. Fear has always been the bane of many a man that would have been great in life. Many, who would have become celebrities but are perceived as nonentities, have been victims of FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL (FEAR). Man is always afraid of what will happen next. He is often more concerned about tomorrow. He feels insecure and worried. This fear of the unknown has always prevented many a man from taking the bull by the horn. It makes many of us to leave our destinies in the hands of others to control.

You need to appreciate that there is nothing to fear about tomorrow.  God has not given us the spirit of fear. The expression ”fear not” appears 365 times in the Bible, which invariably means there is a dose of fear not per day! We must always remember that today is the tomorrow spoken about yesterday. If your employer had not overcome the fear of insecurity or what most of us tag ”fear of the unknown”, you would not be in that your office working. It takes courage and absolute faith in God to live the kind of life you are destined to live. Today, I run a demonstration farm in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, where I rear rabbits, chickens, snails, among others and still train people on the need to be self-reliant. This is possible because I confronted my fear. I could have raised several excuses why the farm should not start. Setting up the farm has come with its challenges, but the will to win has been my sustaining power.

What you must always know is that there is no gain without pain. You don’t have to fear failure. There are no secrets to success. Don’t waste your time looking for them. We pay a heavy price for our fear of failure. It is a powerful obstacle to growth. There is no learning without some difficulty and fumbling. If you want to keep on learning, you must keep on risking failure – ALL YOUR LIFE. Take that bold step now, fear not. Remember, what Orison Swett Marden said: ”many a man has finally succeeded only because he has failed after repeated efforts. If he had never met defeat he would never have known great victory

Conquering Your Fear of FEAR, FAILURE and The FUTURE

AFRICAN YOUTHS AND THE 3F ENEMIES…..GAINING VICTORY FOR SELF DEVELOPMENT.

“Know the enemy and know yourself, and in a hundred battles you will never be defeated; when you are ignorant of the enemy but know yourself, your chances of winning or losing are equal; if you are ignorant of both your enemy and yourself, you are certain to be defeated” – Sun Tzu (The Art of War).

The quote above is unequivocally food for thought for all ages but especially the youth. I mean the African youth who appear ‘trapped’ by these conquerable enemies identified above as 3Fs….. FEAR, FAILURE AND THE FUTURE.

Take a moment to reflect on these popular quotes on the enemy of fear:

” I believe that anyone can conquer fear by doing the things he fear to do”….Eleanor Roosevelt.

”Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear”… Ambrose Redmoon. ”

No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear”…Edmund Burke. ”

Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom”….Bertrand Russell..

No human is immune to this ‘abstract feeling’, regardless of age, social status, and skin color. Fear in this context is not the feeling manifested by an individual when exposed to life threatening situations such as a robbery attack, natural disasters, or the fear associated with the death of a loved one. Rather, the Fear under examination is one that is absolutely within the control of its host. I’ll like to share a personal experience along this line as a youth. I remember growing up in the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria with so many attractions around. As a youth while in High school (secondary education), I had a deep interest in sciences wanting to become a Medical doctor or a Pilot. My Dad used to have a health book as big as an encyclopedia. I usually pick up the book from his library at my leisure to read even though most of what I was reading made little or no academic sense to me. Moreover, growing up in an environment that was not ‘science friendly’ so to say, I started nurturing the fear of pessimism. Added to this was the issue of finance. In school, most of those in the sciences were mates from affluent or wealthy homes. So I had this mindset like, which may be true of most young people that success in the sciences depends on the pay-book of our parents. Hence, I had to settle for the major that accommodates students from all walks of life, the Business Department.

Closely associated with ‘fear’, is the enemy of Failure. In my view, the fear of failure is largely responsible for the stagnant and under-developed psyche of an average person especially youths. In this part of the world (Africa) where superstitions and the fear of the Unknown permeates, many individuals out of lack of motivation and willpower submit themselves to the dictates of their environment thereby giving up after few encounters with failure. Interestingly though, most of the world acclaimed and celebrated personalities from time immemorial, in Africa and in the Diaspora, were beset by this ‘enemy’ on a constant basis and yet are known for success today. Bill Gates, Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela, Wole Soyinka and most recently, Barrack Obama were all ‘victimized’ at one point or the other in their quest towards success by failure. However, due to determination to succeed at all cost, these individuals are known for who they are today. The same can be your experience too. Failure in my opinion, no matter how often it besets its recipient, is only a natural manifestation,  to some extent the frailty of the human species, which is inevitable before success can be realized. Ponder over this: What does it take an infant to become a toddler and grow into childhood? It takes days, weeks and months of repeated crawling, stooping and falling (failure) as a natural experience. In the same vein, failure in whatever form, be it in your academics, business, relationships and other areas of life should not be a deterrent to your progress and success in life. As a very good friend puts it in an article; ‘MAKING IT SLOWLY BUR SURELY‘, Tunde Oseni fervently addressed issues on success in life as a gradual process that takes time to materialize. Therein, he advised youths, especially those in the developing economies, never to be ‘too ambitious to succeed’. Rather, with the right ‘tools’ such as education, commitment, perseverance amongst others, success is guaranteed even though it may come slowly. Therefore, never allow the failure of today to becloud the success of tomorrow. No matter, how many times failure comes your way, realize that what matters most is your unrelenting determination to turn it into success.

The last ‘enemy’ identified above is the Future. Erroneously, many usually see the Future as being into the distant days ahead. However, the future starts today! Future in this context is the unnecessary worries, concerns and anxieties about tomorrow. Needless to state, it is vital to think or plan ahead of time. Many though have allowed themselves to be entrapped by the uncertainties of life thereby giving up effort towards a bright future. Most African youths grow up in an environment that barely impact positively on their lives. Environments where values which define us a people have been thrown into the air, environment where leaders lack integrity and national interest, environment were the youths hardly have a voice especially in government. Despite these limitations, a good number of African youths have made the best for themselves. It is important that as youths, we start positioning ourselves now in terms of empowerment for the future. Obama positioned himself years ago through academic and intellectual empowerment, emerging as the President of the United States of America in 2009. Certainly, a ‘mystery in disguise!! The same can be your experience too. A positive mindset coupled with optimism is needed to successfully wage the battle for a bright Future.

Hence, a call goes to everyone out there, especially African youths who before reading this piece may have been ‘enslaved’ as it were to FEAR, FAILURE and FUTURE. These three ‘enemies’ are within your capacity not only to control, but to conquer. May your Fear turn to be your Freedom, your Failure turn to Fortune and your Future turn to Fame.

THeReIsNoNeLiKeYoU!!

Hey Dear, TGIFriday!

Thank God for the 27th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

Still looking at the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit. We must make a decision to allow the Holy Spirit to control our actions.

Be blessed as you listen to the lyrics of the song: “There Is None Like You” by Stephen Hurd – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhJM19ljgOo

My dear! Let’s go into the weekend with joy knowing that: There is none like our God — No one can touch our life like the Lord. No one can change our life like God. No one can influence us like the Lord. So let’s take time to ascribe all the glory to the King of kings and the Lord of lords because, there is indeed nobody like Our God!! There is no one like Jehovah!! THeReIsNoNeLiKeYoU!!

Have a memorable weekend!

Under the influence – “Confession”

Hey Dear,

Thank God for Thursday, the 26th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – let’s look further at Zechariah – John the Baptist’s father in Luke 1.

In the latter part of this chapter (in vs. 64, 67), And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak, blessing and praising and thanking God……Now Zachariah his father was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying…. — we were told that instantly Zechariah could speak again, and he began praising God. He was then filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied. This means, when Zechariah was filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit, then he began to make some confessions and decreed the prophetic words recorded in verse 68 to 79.

My dear! The Word coming to us from this scripture is that: Under the influence of the Holy Spirit – the power for “positive’ confession is released….The power to confess the Word of God with boldness is released. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit — There is prophetic power. There is power to decree a thing and see it established. There is power to speak with authority. There is power to remember the faithfulness of God. There is power to bring God to remembrance of His covenant to us. There is power to bring life out of a dead situation. There is power to speak light into the darkness around us. There is power to tread upon serpent and scorpions (i.e dangerous situation). There is power to decree that: ”no weapon of the enemy fashioned against us shall prosper”. There is power to decree that: “nothing shall be impossible with God”. There is power to decree: “peace be still’ to those storms in our life. There’s power to decree that: “we are more than conqueror through Christ…”. There is power to decree in the name of Jesus and see what we say come to pass.

As we continue in this season — let’s seek to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit… let’s make a conscious decision to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh… let’s allow the Holy Spirit to control our actions/ways– so that we will experience the power of confession in our life.

Have a Spirit-filled day!!

Under the influence – “Circumcision”

Hey Dear,

Thank God for Wednesday, the 25th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His grace & favor. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} — an example of another person who was under the influence /control of the Holy Spirit is Elizabeth’s husband – Zechariah, who the angel appeared to in the early verses of Luke Chapter 1 telling him about the birth of John the Baptist. In verses 64 and 67, the scriptures says: And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak, blessing and praising and thanking God……Now Zachariah his father was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying….

We see from the beginning of the book of Luke that Zechariah had been dumb since the conception of John the Baptist. But when the 8th day (the day of circumcision) came — his mouth was opened, his tongue was loosed and he was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

In the old testament, circumcision was instituted by God to signify the covenant with Abraham. And circumcision of a child has been known to indicate the parents giving this child to God, which signifies that the child would be committed to serve God alone. The cutting of the foreskin of the male child illustrated they were severing his identity or relationship with the world. We see in this story it was the day that Zechariah decided he was going to give his only son to serve God (circumcise) that his voice was restored and the anointing of the Holy Spirit was released upon him.

My dear! The Word of the Lord coming to us this new day is that: Circumcision can bring the power of the Holy Spirit…. i.e. giving of everything we have to signify we are totally committed to God will bring us under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Giving of our seed to the work of the Kingdom will bring us under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Giving of our worship to the One who created all things will bring us under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Giving of our time to serve God/others will bring us under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Aligning of our way of life with the way/word of God (holiness) will bring us under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Giving of our resources, gifts & talents to the service of God will bring us under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

As we continue to seek to delight in God — let’s ask ourselves: what do I need to circumcise? what do I need to give up to show my total commitment to God?

Have a gr8 circumcision season!!

Under the influence – “Contagious”

Hey Dear,

Thank God for Tuesday, the 24th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – let’s look at example of another person who were under the influence /control of the Holy Spirit. Mary’s cousin: Elizabeth, who the bible records was also pregnant around the same time in Luke 1 Chapter 41 says: And it occurred that when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit. Here we are told that when Mary visited Elizabeth and as she greeted her, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaped and Elizabeth was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit. This means Mary’s contact with Elizabeth brought her under the influence of the Holy Spirit. And we were told she later gave birth to a great man of God (John the Baptist).

My dear! The Word of the Lord coming to us from this scripture is that: Power of the Holy Spirit is contagious. When we are under the influence of the Holy Spirit, our actions can be contagious. When we are under the influence of the Holy Spirit, there can be divine impartation. The power of the Holy Spirit can be imparted on another through prayers of those that are under the influence. The power of the Holy Spirit can be transferred through contact with people who are in a close/intimate relationship with God. The power of the Holy Spirit can be imparted through the laying on of hands by those who are anointed. The power of the Holy Spirit can be imparted by listening to the teachings of a person who is under the influence of the Holy Spirit. The power of the Holy Spirit can be transferred by spending time in fellowship with spirit-filled believers. As we continue to seek to delight in God — the questions we need to ask ourselves is that: Are we under the influence of the Holy Spirit? And if we are then — How contagious are we?

Have a gr8 ”contagious” week!

Under the influence – “Conception”

Hey Dear,

Thank God for Monday 23rd day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} — For the next couple of weeks, I want us to look at specific example of people who were under the influence/control of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the bible. The 1st person will be Mary: the biological mother of Jesus Christ our Savior — Luke Chapter 1 vs. 35 says: 35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.This is the response that the Angel gave to the conversation with Mary in the preceding verses — about her conceiving and giving birth to a son. Mary was confused and wondering how she was going to be pregnant as she was a virgin…never had any intimate relationship with a man. The angel explained to her that the conception was going to be by the power of the Holy Spirit overshadowing her. And she was going to give birth to the Savior of the whole world.

My dear! The word of the of the Lord coming to us this new day is that – There’s is “conception” as we walk under the influence of the Holy Spirit…i.e. we continue to allow the Holy Spirit to control us, we will conceive (be pregnant) and bring forth a “baby” (ideas/visions/dreams). Under the influence of the Holy Spirit – there is power to create something great out of something small. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit – there is power for “witty inventions”. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit – there is power to bring life to a dead situation. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit – there is power to conceive a big tree (idea) out of a small seed (thought). Under the influence of the Holy Spirit – there is power to conceive a divine idea that will benefit our generation. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit – there is power to conceive and bring forth our destiny/purpose in life.

My prayer as we seek to delight in God is that — we will continue to allow the Holy Spirit to control our thoughts & actions in all that we do.

Enjoy your conception season!!

No other choice…but to BeLiEVe!!

Hey Dear, TGIFriday!

Thank God for the 20th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

Still looking at the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit. My dear! Let’s go into the weekend knowing that: We have no other choice but to trust God….We have no other choice but to believe in the One who is able to guide and lead us in the path we should go… We have no other choice but to BeLiEVe the promise God has made to us.

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 19th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – we said for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit… allow the Holy Spirit to exhibit His attributes in our life.

Still looking at the Holy Spirit – influencing us as our Teacher (spiritual). Just as school teachers are known to give tests/examinations in order to assess the level of knowledge of a student; so our spiritual Teacher allows us to go through test and trials in order to see how much we know & believe the promises of God to us.

So my dear! Are you going through a test/trial? Are you getting fed up with the way things are happening around us? Have you come to a point where you want to give up? Are you at a point where you don’t even know where to turn to? Are you at a point where it seems everyone has left you? Have you come to a place where you are wondering if this situation will ever change/get better? Are you at a point where you don’t even know what to do? Are you at a point when you feel God has left you? Are you thinking life is too hard and unfair because of the way things are? Are you becoming so frustrated about life because things are not going as planned? Are you asking why, why, why? Are you wondering if life is worth all the trouble? Are you going through hard times?

The Word of encouragement to us today that: the Holy Spirit- our teacher & test-giver is with us. He is here to comfort, to strengthen and to encourage us through our tests & trials. The Holy Spirit is with us, so all we need to do is to seek His help in our difficult times. The Holy Spirit is with us to give us grace to help us in our time of need. The Holy Spirit is with us to help us to live as a world overcomer.

Be blessed as you go into this new day and my prayer today is that we will experience the power of the Holy Spirit in our situation as we cry out to Him.

Have a spirit filled day

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 18th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

May we experience the power of the Holy Spirit in a new way this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!  Let’s continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – as we said for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit… allow the Holy Spirit to exhibit His attributes in our life. Let’s look at the scripture in the book of 1st Corinthians 2 : 9 & 10 –However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
In this scripture, Paul is making the people of Corinth to understand that God has a purpose and great plan for them. A plan that no eye has seen. A plan that no ear has heard. A plan that no one can comprehend. A plan that can never been imagined. A plan that no man can understand. But he went on to explain that this great plan is only revealed through & by the Holy Spirit as it is the Holy Spirit who searches and digs deep into the heart of God and then brings out into the open (or reveals) to us what God has planned for us.
My dear! the word coming to us as we continue to seek to delight in the Lord is that: We should allow the Holy Spirit to teach us by revelation. The Holy Spirit searches deep into the heart of God then reveals the mind of God to us.  The Holy Spirit will reveals the divine will of God to us. The Holy Spirit will enable us to see and understand God’s perfect plan for our life. The Holy Spirit will open our spiritual eyes to see what God has in store for us as we wait on Him this year.

As we continue seek to delight in the Lord – let’s seek to develop a relationship with the Him so He will reveal the mind of God to us in Jesus name.. Amen!!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 17th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

May we experience God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension, as we continue to believe and delight in the Lord this year this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!

Let’s continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – as we said for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit… allow the Holy Spirit to exhibit His attributes in our life. Let’s look at the scripture in the book of Luke Chapter 12 :11 & 12: And when they bring you before the synagogues and the magistrates and the authorities, do not be anxious [beforehand] how you shall reply in defense or what you are to say. For the Holy Spirit will TEACH you in that very hour and moment what [you] ought to say (AMPL)

In this scripture, Jesus was telling the disciples that there will be a time they will be brought before the authority in order for them to defend the gospel (what they believe). But that they should not be bothered about what they will say to justify themselves when they are being questioned. Because the Holy Spirit will teach them at that very moment – what they should say.

My dear! the word coming to us as we continue to seek to delight in the Lord is that: we shouldn’t be anxious or worried about what or how we will respond in any situation because the Holy Spirit is our TEACHER.

Just like a teacher — The Holy Spirit is the One who imparts the wisdom we need in order to know what to say when we are before a panel. The Holy Spirit is the One who will instruct us on how to respond when we are in a compromising situation.. The Holy Spirit is the One who will teach us how to answer when we are being accused of what we didn’t do. The Holy Spirit is the One who will give us the right words to say — in that discussion/meeting, in that court case, to that difficult boss/colleague.. etc. The Holy Spirit is the One who will point out what we need to know and say in every situation we face.

As we continue seek to delight in the Lord – let’s be encouraged in all that we might be facing knowing that the Holy Spirit has been sent to us to teach and guide us.

Enjoy a spirit-led day/week!!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 16th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness.

Let’s look at another attribute of the Holy Spirit as highlighted in Chapter 14:26 –But the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will TEACH you ALL things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you. (AMP) — But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will be your TEACHER in all things and will put you in mind of everything I have said to you (BBE)

In this scripture, Jesus is telling His disciples that the Holy Spirit whom God the Father will send to act on His behalf will be like a teacher… to teach them ALL things. So just in case there are some things that the disciples don’t really understand in all the teaching Jesus has shared with them. The Holy Spirit was going to be there to teach and bring clarity to everything and anything they need to know about life.

My dear! The Word coming to us today is that: For us to delight in God, we must allow the Holy Spirit (the influencer) to be our TEACHER. We must allow the Holy Spirit to impart us with the wisdom to handle our situation. We must allow the Holy Spirit to point us in the direction to go. We must allow the Holy Spirit to influence our decisions. We must allow the Holy Spirit to give us divine instruction on what to do and say. We must allow the Holy Spirit to train us in the things of the Kingdom. We must allow the Holy Spirit to control our desires. We must allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into all the truth of the Word of God that we need for life.

As we continue to seek to delight in the Lord — let’s allow the “influencer” to teach us all things we need to know in order to go from one level of glory to the other this year.

Have a spirit-controlled day/week!!

May we experience God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension, as we believe and delight in the Lord this year this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 12th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

May we experience God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension, as we believe and delight in the Lord this year this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!

Let’s continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – as we said that for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit. Still looking at the scripture in the book of John Chapter 16:7&8 – amplified version says:  However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].  And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about SIN and about RIGHTEOUSNESS (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about JUDGEMENT: (AMPL)

When Jesus was about to leave the earth – He promised to send us the Holy Spirit to influence us by being our helper. In the scripture above another things that the Holy Spirit was going to help to do was convict people about righteousness.

So My dear! the Word of the Lord to us today is that: For us to delight in God we must allow the “influencer” (the Holy Spirit) to be our helper. We must allow the Holy Spirit to convict the world of righteousness. We must allow the Holy Spirit to help to convince us about uprightness of heart. We must allow the Holy Spirit to help us to know how to be in right standing with God. We must allow the help us to understand that out righteousness is like filthy rags. We must allow the Holy Spirit to assist us in knowing that our righteousness is not of ourselves but through Christ. We must allow the Holy Spirit to always remind that we are what we are only by the grace of God. We must allow the Holy Spirit to help us to

May the Holy Spirit continue to help us as we seek to delight in the Lord this season and always.

Have a blessed and highly favored day.

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 11th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!May we experience God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension, as we believe and delight in the Lord this year this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen! (AMPL)

When Jesus was about to leave the earth — He promised to give us the Holy Spirit: our Helper. He promised to send us the Holy Spirit to influence us by being our helper. Who is a helper?

Helper is a person or thing that gives assistance and support — Helper a person who contributes to the fulfillment of a need or furtherance of an effort or purpose.

My dear! the Word of the Lord to us today is that: For us to delight in God we must allow the “influencer” (the Holy Spirit) to be our Helper. We must allow Him to help, assist and to support us as we seek to fulfill God’s purpose for our life. We must allow the influencer to help to convict the world of sin. We must allow the Holy Spirit to help to expose the error  in the way the world view sin. We must allow the Holy Spirit to help to show the world the truth about sin. We must allow the Holy Spirit to help to bring our wrong ways & thoughts to our attention. We must allow the Holy Spirit to help us as we examine ourselves at all times.

As we continue to seek to delight in God — My prayer is that we will continue to allow our the Holy Spirit to influence us in all that we do in Jesus Name.. Amen!

I-nfluence: Attributes of the “influencer”

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 10th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!May we experience God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension, as we believe and delight in the Lord this year this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!  Let’s continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – as we said that for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit. Still looking at the scripture in the book of John Chapter 16 verse 7 – amplified version says: However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. (AMPL)

In this translation – The Holy Spirit is being referred to as the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby). Jesus was talking to His disciple when He was about to leave — He realized that they were sad and He had to explain to them that His departure would definitely be a benefit to them. This is because the Holy Spirit who is… the Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Strengthener, Intercessor etc… will come when Jesus has gone to be with the Father. After resurrection, we know that Jesus has gone to be with the Father. Therefore the Holy Spirit that was promised in this scripture is here with us even now. The Holy Spirit has been sent and is here with us to strengthen, comfort, help and encourage us.

My dear! The Word of the Lord coming to us today is that: For us to continue to delight in God i.e. continue to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit — we must allow the Holy Spirit to exhibit the attributes outlined in this scripture. We must allow the Holy Spirit to encourage us during those hard times. We must cry out to the Holy Spirit, the Counselor to guide us in what we need to do in that situation. We must look to the hills, to the Helper, to take us go through those hard and trying times. We must seek the Holy Spirit, the strengthener, when it seems we are starting to get weary in doing good. We must allow the Holy Spirit to comfort us when we feel hurt or lost a loved one. We must allow the Holy Spirit, the Advocate to defend us this court of “life” that we find ourselves. We must the Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf with groaning too deep for our words to express.

As seek to delight in the Lord this month of May – let’s take time to draw close and allow the Holy Spirit to express His divine attributes in our life at all times.

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 9th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

May we experience God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension, as we believe and delight in the Lord this year this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!

Let’s continue with the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – we said last week that for us to delight in God we must be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit. I want us to spend some time looking at some of the things that we can do in order to ensure that we continue to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

The 1st scripture that comes to mind is in the book of John Chapter 16 verse 7: So let me say it again, this truth: It’s better for you that I leave. If I don’t leave, the FRIEND won’t come. But if I go, I’ll send Him (the FRIEND) to you (MSG)

In this translation of the scripture — Jesus was telling His disciples when He was about to go back to His Father (God) that it was necessary for Him to go, and He told them the benefits of Him leaving them. He said He had to go so that He can send “the Friend”: the Holy Spirit to them. So Jesus had to leave so that we can come into close fellowship or relationship with the Holy Spirit, the Friend who is able to ensure that we continue to remain under the influence.

My dear! the Word of God to us today is that: For us to continue to delight in God i.e. continue to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit then we must befriend the Holy Spirit. We must embrace the friendship of the Holy Spirit so that we can walk in the divine will/plan/purpose of God for our life. We must befriend the Holy Spirit so that we will not walk in the flesh. We must befriend the Holy Spirit so that we can live a life that is pleasing to God. We must befriend the Holy Spirit so that we can continue to be spiritual-minded.

Let’s always remember that we have a Friend who is able to help us to be spiritual-minded i.e. continue “under the influence”… so let’s go ahead make the Holy Spirit our companion 2day.

Have a great week!

Loving Regards,

I-nfluence: Spiritual-minded

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 5th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!May we experience God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension, as we believe and delight in the Lord this year this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!  As we continue looking at the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – the phrase that comes to mind is “under the influence” i.e. driving under the influence (DUI). The scripture in the book of John chapter 4 verse 24 says: God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in “spirit and in truth”(reality) (AMP) —  Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth  (MSG) The scripture says: God is Spirit and anyone who will worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth. The word “MUST” here expresses — “an obligation, a requirement, a necessity, a certainty, and something that must be done”. When “must” is used it means that it is not optional. The only way we can walk with God and be acceptable to Him is when we walk and live by the Spirit.

So we can interpret this scripture as saying: God is Spirit so anyone who will delight in God i.e. be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit MUST be spiritual-minded. Spiritual-minded means – Having the mind set on spiritual things, or filled with holy desires and affections.

My dear! The Word of God coming to us today is that: For us to delight in God i.e. be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit — We must strive (daily) to do everything by the leading of the Holy Spirit. We must set our hearts on things above (heavenly things). We must strive not to walk according to the dictates of the flesh. We must make a decision to walk by faith and not by sight. We must lay aside every sin that so easily comes upon our flesh. We must take a stand to live by the Spirit of God. We must make a decision to be Spiritual-minded in everything we do.

Remain blessed as you go into this new day — may God grant us the grace and power that we need to be spiritual-minded.

Enjoy a Spirit-filled day!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 4th day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue to believe and delight in the Lord this year – may we experience the God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!

Looking at the I in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {Influence in relation to delighting in God} – the phrase that comes to mind is “under the influence” i.e. driving under the influence (DUI).

As we continue to look at this theme, let’s ask ourselves questions like – What are we D.U.I of? What are we allowing to influence us on this journey of life? What should actually be influencing us on our journey of life?

Let’s look at the scripture in the book of Galatians 5:16 says: But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). (AMP)
In this scripture, Apostle Paul is admonishing the people of Galatia to endeavor to live by the spirit so that they will be able to overcome the desires that the flesh brings their way. He was telling them to endeavor to be under the control of the Spirit so that they will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

The Word of the Lord coming to you and I today is that: For us to be able to delight in the Lord  — we must be under the influence of the Holy Spirit. We must be intoxicated by the power of the Holy Spirit. We must allow the power of the Holy Spirit to control our life. We must allow the Holy Spirit to guide & lead us in the decision we make. We must allow the Holy Spirit to rule every area of our life.. We must be under the authority of the Triune God.

My dear! For us to fulfill the condition in Psal 37:4 (delight in God), we must be under the influence of the Holy Spirit. May God help us as we seek to walk & live by the Holy Spirit.

Enjoy a Spirit led day!

Loving regards,

Temidayo

I-nfluence: DUI or DWI?

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 3rd day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

Since the beginning of the year – we have been trying to understand what it means to: Delight in the Lord i.e. what we need to do in order to fulfill this condition that is linked to the promise in Psalm 37:4 – “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”. So far we have looked at D.E.L.I.G.H.T under the following categories: Decrees, Expressions and Love…the next category is “Influence” – how it relates to delighting in God.

Let’s start by understanding what influence means? Dict. Meaning of Influence- to persuade or induce; ability to alter or sway an individual’s or a group’s thoughts & beliefs; the process of producing effects on the actions, behavior and opinions, of another person; to move or impel (a person) to some action etc

When I hear someone say the word “influence” – phrase that comes to mind is “under the influence”…. and terms like driving under the influence (DUI) and driving while intoxicated (DWI) are common phrases used to represent the criminal offense of operating a motor vehicle while being under the influence of alcohol or drugs or a combination of both.

In light of these definitions – I want us to ask ourselves some question: Are we “driving under the influence”? Are we “driving while intoxicated”? Are we driving through this journey of life “drunk/intoxicated”? What is compelling us to take do the things we do? What is controlling our actions/thoughts/behavior? What is influencing us on this journey of life?….etcetera.

Over the next couple of weeks – we will try to answer some of these “influence” questions as it relates to delighting in God.

As we continue in this season — May we experience the grace and favor of God each new day of this new month of May.

Loving Regards,

Temidayo Onajin

Happy New MAY!!

Hey Dear,

Happy New Month!! Happy New MAY!!

Thank God for the 2nd day of May 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah! As this is the 5th month of the year and “5” being the number of GRACE – May we experience the God’s grace (undeserved favor) in a greater dimension this month of May in Jesus Name..Amen!  The bible says in Psalm 102: 13 — You will arise and have mercy on Zion; For the time to FAVOUR her,  Yes ,the set time (designated moment), has come (AMPL)  — You’ll get up from your throne and help Zion– it’s time for compassionate help. (MSG) — You will arise and have mercy on Jerusalem– and now is the time to pity her, now is the time you promised to help. (NLT) — You will show pity to Zion,  because the time has come. (CEV) The Word of the Lord coming to you & I this new month is that: Now is the set time for God’s favor …  this month of MAY is the set time!!

So MAY! Hear the Word of the Lord today as we decree in the Name of Jesus — This is our season of divine favor. This is the set time for God’s abundance. The promises of God to us is coming to pass this month. We are breaking forth this month. We decree divine breakthrough into our life this month. We will fulfill the purpose of God for our life this month. We declare that as each day breaks, the earth will yield its increase unto us. We declare that our time of help is now. We decree that our lines have fallen unto us in pleasant places this month. We decree that we are going to our wealthy place this month. We decree that the wealth of the Gentiles is ours this season in Jesus Name. We call forth those things that be not as though they are…this month. We subdue every plan of the enemy over our life this month. We take dominion-authority over each day of this month. We decree that we are moving forward – we are moving to the place of our destiny this month…in Jesus Name we pray. Amen!

My dear! MAY is the set time…. use your mouth to decree those things that be not as though they are – then delight, believe and be EXPECTANT!!

Have a favor/grace-filled month!

Decree in the Name of the Risen One…

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 28th day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue to understand the L in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {LOVE as it relates to delighting in God} — today is a another day to remember the sincere, unconditional, sacrificial agape love of the Lover of our soul to us. The scripture in the book of Luke 24: 1-7 says: Very early on the first day of the week, at dawn, the women came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. They found that the STONE HAS BEEN ROLLED AWAY from the entrance. but when they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, two men in shining clothes suddenly stood beside them. The women were very afraid and bowed their heads to the ground. The men said to them, “Why are you looking for a living person in this place for the dead?  He is not here; HE IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD!

Another thing that comes to mind as we continue to look at this scripture in light of the season of resurrection is that: We have authority after resurrection – We have the authority to decree  in the Name of the Risen One… and it shall come to pass. You and I have the authority to tread upon anything in the Name of the Risen One and they shall not hurt us. We have the power to speak to any situation in the Name of the Risen One and it will be well.

Therefore, today by the authority we have in the Name of the Risen One = JESUS CHRIST – We decree that every situation that looks dead around us come alive now by the power of resurrection. We declare that every hopeless situation comes to life by the resurrection power. We decree that every dead financial situation receive life right now in Jesus Name. We declare that every business proposal and ideas that has been buried will come back to life by the reason of the anointing. We declare that every home/ministry/marriage going through problems receive life in Jesus Name. We decree that we are loosed from any form of bondage, by the power of the resurrection in Jesus Name. We decree life to every dead situation right now in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen. We declare that signs and wonders will follow every declaration we make this season in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!!

As we continue in this season, let’s continue to declare our freedom by the authority which has been bestowed upon us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Fix Your Eyes on The Risen One….

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 27th day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness.

The scripture (vs. 6). here says: The women who went looking for Jesus in the tomb were asked: Why they were looking for a living person in a cemetery? Why they looking for the risen One in the place where dead people live? I guess these women were just so overwhelmed with the large stone that had been rolled away that they didn’t even remember the promise of resurrection after 3 days. They just did the normal thing anyone will do — looking for the Jesus in the tomb. They were looking for the Savior in the wrong place. They were puzzled and terrified and were looking for the One who God has promised to save the whole world in the wrong place. In the same way, we also can sometimes find ourselves looking for our solution in the wrong place because of the magnitude of the problem we seem to be faced with. We can find ourselves looking in the wrong direction for the help that God has promised us, because we don’t seem to understand what is happening. We can find ourselves seeking counsel from the wrong person, because of the pressure of what we are going through. We can sometimes find ourselves seeking the fulfillment of the promise of God in the wrong way. We can sometimes find ourselves looking for help from the wrong places.

My dear! As we continue in this season of resurrection – let take our eyes off those problems and look to the hill where our help comes from. Let’s take our mind off those things that make us weary/anxious but fix our thought on those things which are excellent and praiseworthy (Phil 4:8). Let’s get rid of those things that easily weigh us down and fix our eyes on the Risen One: the author and perfecter of our faith (Heb 12:1-3)

As we fix our eyes on the Risen One… may we experience the power of resurrection in a greater dimension in every area of our life this season in Jesus name. Amen!!

Every Stone Has Deen Rolled Away…!!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 26th day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue to understand the L in D.E.L.I.G.H.T {LOVE as it relates to delighting in God} — today is a another day to remember the sincere, unconditional, sacrificial agape love of the Lover of our soul to us. May we experience the love of God in a greater dimension this season in Jesus Name.. Amen!

The scripture in the book of Mark 16 : 1-4 says:  When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the STONE, which was very LARGE, HAD BEEN ROLLED AWAY.

The scripture says here that the stone has been rolled away…the large stone that was used to close the entrance of the tomb where Jesus was laid has been rolled away. The stone can be said to symbolize – a restriction, hindrance, a form of bondage, the limitation of freedom etc. As the stone at the entrance of the tomb has been rolled away so also every stone in the path of our destiny has been rolled away.

My dear! As we continue in this season of resurrection — the Word coming to us today is that: Every stone in our life have been rolled away. The stone of doubt has been rolled away. The stone of despair has been rolled away. The stone of defeat has been rolled away. The stone of failure has been rolled away. The stone of delay has been rolled away. The stone of poverty has been rolled away. The stone of misfortune has been rolled away. The stone of infirmity has been rolled away. The stone of wrong connection has been rolled away. The stone of stagnancy has been rolled away. The stone of sorrow has been rolled away. The stone of death has been rolled away.

As we continue in this season of Easter, let’s continue to declare that “every stone is rolled away” by the authority which has been bestowed upon us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Enjoy a victorious day!!

Loving Regards,

Temiday

B’cos He is Risen…

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 25th day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness.

Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”

The stone has been rolled away….the Lover of our soul is not longer in the grave — He is risen…Jesus is risen…He is alive forevermore!!!

My dear! Let’s be encouraged this new day – Because Jesus is risen, we can face tomorrow. Because the King of kings is risen, all fear is gone. Because He is risen, our future is certain. Because our Savior is risen, life is worth living. Because Jesus is risen, we can overcome every trouble, trials, challenges on our way. Because our Redeemer lives, we are more than conquerors. Because He is risen, we are victorious. Because He lives, we are no longer slaves to sin. Because our Master is risen, the sting of death is gone. Because He lives, we have life abundant. Because Jesus is risen, we have eternal life.
Be blessed as you continue in this great day – Jesus is risen! Jesus is alive forever! The sting of death/depression/sorrow is gone forever!

L-OVE: The Cross = Perfect act of Love!!

Hey Dear,

TGIFriday… Good Friday!

Thank God for the 22nd day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue to understand the L in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {LOVE as it relates to delighting in God} — today (Good Friday) is a good day to remind ourselves of the sincere, unconditional, sacrificial agape love of God to us. Let’s look at the scripture in the book of Luke 23:34 — Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. And they divided up his clothes by casting lots (NIV) — Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them; they don’t know what they’re doing.” Dividing up his clothes, they threw dice for them (MSG)

This scripture is Jesus response to the treatment He received from the hands of those who were nailing Him to the Cross. Jesus asked God to forgive the people who were putting him to death on the Cross. He asked God to have mercy on the Jewish leaders, Romans politicians and soldiers, bystanders who were mocking him — because they do not know what they were doing.

My dear! Jesus was suffering the most horrible, painful death ever devised by sinful man and he looked at the people responsible for His suffering and prayed for their forgiveness. And God answered that prayer by opening up the way of salvation & deliverance to the whole world through Jesus’ crucifixion, death & resurrection. What a perfect act of love!!

The Word coming to us today is that: “The Cross of Calvary” is the perfect act of love!! The response of Jesus to the mocking, suffering, crucifixion and death that He received in the hands of people is a perfect expression of sincere love – the love God expect us to show to our neighbors.

As we continue in this season of Easter – let’s take time to give thanks for the agape love that God bestowed upon us by giving His one and only begotten God to die for us.

Have a “good” Friday and a glorious Easter!!

Loving Regards,

Temidayo

L-OVE: Cling to What is Good

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 21st day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we seek to DELIGHT ourselves in the Lord this month of April – may the heavens be opened upon us & may we be deeply rooted in the love of God this new month in Jesus name. Amen!

As we continue to understand the L in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {LOVE as it relates to delighting in God}, I want us to take a look at the scripture in the book of Romans 12 vs. 9: Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. (NIV) —  Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. (NLT)

In the 3rd part of the scripture, Paul went on to explain that a person who really loves sincerely will “cling to what is good”. The One that loves sincerely will cleave to the right things. The person who loves sincerely will be attached to godly things. The person who really loves from the heart will be devoted to the things that are right in the eyes of God. The person who really loves sincerely will attracted to those things which God takes pleasure in.

The Word coming to us today is that – as we seek to love as God expects, we must cling to good! We must be attracted to doing good. We must be devoted to expressing the acts of the fruit of the spirit:…love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” (Gal 5:22,23)

My dear! As we continue in this season, let’s be reminded that a person walking in sincere love should be attracted to and practice those things that are right, holy, good and eternally valuable. May God help us in Jesus name. Amen!!

Have an awesome “good clinging” dayJ!!

Loving Regards,

Temidayo

L-OVE: Hate what is evil

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 20th day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness.

(NLT)

In the 2nd part of the scripture, Paul went on to explain that a person who really loves sincerely will “hate what is evil” So the word of the Lord to us today is that: sincere love must hate what is wrong. Sincere love will loathe ungodliness. Sincere love will turn from all forms of wickedness. Sincere love will despise the “acts of sin”; some of which are highlighted in the book of Roman 1–  sexual immorality, greed, depravity, envy, murder, strife, deceit, slander, arrogance, boasting, inventing ways of doing evil, disobedient to parents, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, backstabbing, gossiping etc. So if we truly love sincerely, the thought of these behaviors will be personally repulsive to us.

My dear! As children of God, in order for us to express sincere love to God and to others — we must hate evil passionately i.e. we must detest all forms of wickedness and acts of sin! May God help us as we go through each day.

Enjoy a gr8 “hate evil” day”

Loving Regards,

Temidayo

L-OVE: Bust Be Sincere!!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 19th day of April 2011 – a day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for His faithfulness.

(NIV) — [Let your] love be sincere [a real thing] (AMPL)

In the 1st part of the scripture, Paul is telling us that the love that God expect us to share with our neighbors must be “sincere”….love must be from our heart.

My dear! The Word coming to you and I today is that: We are to love “for real”… from our inner being – no pretence. The love we profess to our neighbor must be sincere, free from deceit. The love we are expected to express to our neighbors must be real. The love we are to show our neighbors must be genuine from our heart. The love we are expected to practice must be without hypocrisy. The love we are expected to share with our neighbors must be unadulterated. The love we are expected to share with our neighbors must from a pure heart.

As we continue to seek to delight in the Lord at all times – may God grant us the grace to love our neighbor as ourselves and with a genuine and sincere heart.

Have a glorious LOVE_ing day!!

L-OVE: Samaritan’s Act of Mercy #4 – Give ur Resources!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 18th day of April 2011 – a month & day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for who He is. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue to DELIGHT in the Lord this new month of April – may the heavens be opened upon us & may we be deeply rooted in the love of God this new month in Jesus name. Amen!

Still using the story of good Samaritan Luke Chapter 10  to understand the L in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {LOVE as it relates to delighting in God}. I want us to take some time to look at some act of mercy that the Samaritan showed in this story as it relates to how we are expected to express love (agápē, αγάπη) to our neighbors.

The 4th act of mercy is found in verse 35 – 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have(NIV)

The scripture says here that the Samaritan gave the innkeeper two silver coins (Roman denarii) as a deposit to ensure that the wounded man is taken care of. One Roman denarii is equivalent to be the average pay for one day’s work. The Samaritan gave of his “sweat” – he gave 2 days of his wages to cover the cost of the wounded man.

My dear! The Word of the Lord to you and I today is that for us to be able to express love as we should – we must be ready to give our resources. We must be able to give of our finances to assist those in need.  We must be ready to give our material possessions to those who are not able to afford. We must be ready to give our spiritual gift to serve others in our local church. We must be ready to give of our talent to help those in need. We must be ready to give our resources to assist those who have been affected by one kind of natural disaster or another.

As we continue to seek to love our neighbor as ourselves this season – May God continue to grant us the grace we need in order to share our resources – in cash and kind, with those who are in need.

Have a gr8 giving day!

Loving Regards,

Temiday

L-OVE: Samaritan’s Act of Mercy #3 – “Soothe the Wound..”!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 14th day of April 2011 – a month & day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for who He is.

The 3rd act of mercy is found in verse 34 – Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him (NLT)

The scripture says here that the Samaritan soothed/treated the man’s wound i.e. he bought some comfort/relieve to the man’s pain. He treated the man by applying olive oil, wine and bandaging the wound. In New Testament times, the oil and wine were used like medicine to soften and clean wounds – with the expectation of bringing healing to the wound.

My dear! The Word to us today is that for us to be able to express love as we should  – we must be ready to “soothe the wound”. We must be ready to “soothe the wound” using the different options available to us. We must be able to apply olive oil to the soothe the wounds of other – by creating an atmosphere/aroma of God’s presence around us. We must be able to apply wine to soften the heart of men – by bringing joy through the things we do. We must be able to bring relieve to people’s emotional hurt – by the word of encouragement we speak to them. We must be able to refresh those who are in need by bandaging their wounds with our resources (money/material/prayers/words).

As we continue to seek to delight in God by loving others as ourselves – may we receive the grace that we need in order to “soothe the wounds” of others in Jesus name. Amen!

Enjoy a gr8 soothing day!

L-OVE: Samaritan’s Act of Mercy #2 – Take Action…Go Out!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 13th day of April 2011 – a month & day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for who He is.

The 2nd act of mercy is found in verse 34a – Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them (NLT) — The Samaritan went to him, poured olive oil and wine on his wounds, and bandaged them (NCV). Here the scripture says: The Samaritan went over to him… this means he didn’t just see him and have compassion for him but he went over to where the man was and gave him some 1st aid treatment. The Samaritan was able to express his love and compassion when he went over to touch the man physically.. he took some actions!

My dear! The Word to us today is that – for us to be able to express love to our neighbors as we should, we must go out to the people and actually take some actions. We can look at taking action in 2 ways:

·         Take action by going out and looking for people who are in need – We can get this information by listening to news, from local church mission work, surfing the internet, supporting outreach ministries, checking the neighborhood around us. Then we can now go out and be a blessing with our resources.·         Take action by going out of our comfort zone to help someone – We must not just identify with the people in our inner circle but go out of our way. We must do some unusual things… things that we’ll not normally do. We must take our eyes off our “core” i.e. ourselves/immediate family/close friends etc, but look at the world at large. As we continue in this season of love – may God grant us the grace to take action as we seek to express the agape love of God to those who have been wounded on this journey of life.

Have a action (love) packed day/week/monthJ!

Loving Regards,

Temidayo

L-OVE: Samaritan’s Act of Mercy #1 – Be Compassionate!!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 12th day of April 2011 – a month & day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for who He is.

The 1st act of mercy is found in verse 33 – “Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him (NLT). A Samaritan traveling the road came on him. When he saw the man’s condition, his heart went out to him (MSG). The bible records here that as soon as the Samaritan saw the condition of the wounded man… his heart went out to him and he had compassion on him.

Compassion (dict meaning): is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune and this feeling is usually accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

My dear! The Word coming to us today is that for us to be able to express the love of God to those around us as we should – we must have compassion. We must develop deep sympathy for those who are in need around us. We must put ourselves in the shoes of the needy people in our world. We must develop a desire to reach out to the lost souls. We must have pity on those who are going through difficult times around us. We must have a strong desire to help those who have been wounded on this journey of life.We must be able to identify with the conditions of the people around us. We must have a tender heart towards those that have been robbed by the one who came to kill, steal & destroy.

May God help us as we make a conscious effort to develop compassion for those who are in need because they have been wounded in this journey of life.

Have a compassionate day!!

Loving Regards,

Temidayo

L-OVE: Go and Do Likewise!

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 11th day of April 2011 – a month & day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for who He is. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we seek to DELIGHT in the Lord this new month of April – may the heavens be opened upon us & may we be deeply rooted in the love of God this new month in Jesus name. Amen!

Still using the story of good Samaritan in Luke Chapter 10  to understand the L in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {LOVE as it relates to delighting in God}. The discussion between Jesus and the religious law expert continued in verse 36 & 37 – “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

After all the talks about: the wounded man, Jewish priest, Temple servant & the Samaritan man – Jesus then asked the expert who he thinks is the wounded man’s neighbor from this story. The religious expert may have been reluctant to even call him a Samaritan as he said: “The one who showed him mercy”. And Jesus response to him was – now that you have seen and understand this then: “You, Go and do likewise”.

My dear! The Word of Jesus to the religious expert is what God is saying to you and I today – Now, Go and do the same! Go and do exactly the same thing that the Samaritan did. Go and express love to the “strangers” in your world. Go and do what you understand from this story. Go and act on the Word you have been taught. Go and do what the Word teaches about love. Go and show forth the Samaritan’s acts of mercy. Go and do as likewise!!

As we continue in this month of April – may the gift of love in our heart be stirred up so that we can indeed go and do likewise!!

Have a LOVE-filled day!!

Loving Regards,

Temidayo

L-OVE: Samaritan Love #3

Hey Dear,

Thank God for the 7th day of April 2011 – a month & day that the Lord has made so let’s begin this new day by rejoicing in the Lord for who He is. Praise God…Hallelujah!

As we continue to BELIEVE & DELIGHT in the Lord this new month of April – may the heavens be opened upon us & may we be deeply rooted in the love of God this new month in Jesus name. Amen!

Still looking at the L in D.E.L.I.G.H.T – {LOVE as it relates to delighting in God}. God’s kind of love (agápē, αγάπη) which we must express others. Today let’s look at verse 33 & 34 of Luke Chapter 10 (story of good Samaritan)  –“33 Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him. 34 Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. This portion of scripture records that a “despised” Samaritan had compassion on the wounded man as he came along the road – he went over to the wounded Jewish man and took care of him.

Few points to note from this story:

·         A Samaritan man was the one that had pity & compassion on the wounded man – Samaritans are people from Samaria. These people were part Jewish, but the Jews did not accept them as true Jews. And it’s also believed that Samaritans and Jews disliked each other.·         A Samaritan man was the one that gave him first aid, disinfected and bandaged the man’s wounds- the Jewish man was slighted by his fellow Jews. He was abandoned by those who should be his friends i.e. family, fellow believers, work colleagues but was cared for by a stranger. So as we go through this journey of life, let’s be sensitive to those “strangers” that God has brought our way to help us.

·         A Samaritan man put him on his own donkey – even though the Jews considered the Samaritans to be ceremonially unclean and socially outcast, but the Samaritan didn’t allow other people’s view about him and his culture to stop him from helping the wounded man. As we go through this journey of life, let be careful not to judge people based on their physical appearance i.e. color, culture, race because we might miss the “stranger” whom God has assigned to us.

·         A “despised” Samaritan man was the one that took the wounded man to a place (an inn) to be made comfortable and cared for – the wounded man was cared for by a Samaritan who is from the nation which the Jews despised and detested, and would have no dealings with. As we go through life, let’s be careful not to allow what we have heard about someone or group of people to cloud the way we see them. Because we might end up missing a God ordained assistance.

My dear! As we continue on this journey of life – May our eyes be opened to see the “stranger(s)” God has sent our way to lead us to our destination. May we be sensitive in the Holy Spirit so that we can identify our helper(s) of destiny.

Smart Steps to Healthy Living

Whether rich or poor, many people fail to see the link between their habits and their health. They may regard enjoying good health as a matter of chance or something over which they have little control. Such a fatalistic view holds many back from improving their health and leading a more productive life.

In reality, whatever one’s financial situation, there are basic steps that can be taken to protect and improve ones health and those of close associates. Some common healthy habits are provided below:

EAT WISELY– Concentrate on eating ‘real’ food- whole, fresh foods that people have been enjoying for millenniums- rather than modern processed foods. Commercially prepackaged foods and fast food from chain restaurants usually contain high levels of sugar, salt, and fat which are associated with heart disease, stroke, cancer and other serious ailments. When cooking, try steaming, baking, and broiling instead of frying. Try using more herbs and spices to cut down on salt. Make sure meats are properly cooked, and never eat spoiled foods.

The World Health Organization reports a dangerous worldwide increase in overweight and obesity, most of which result from overeating. One study found that in parts of Africa, ”there are more children who are overweight than malnourished”. Obese children carry both present and future health risks including diabetes. A balanced plate favors a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains over meats and starches. Once or twice a week, try substituting fish for meat. Reduce refined food such as pasta, white bread, and white rice, which are usually stripped of much of their nutritional value. Adults and children need to drink plenty of water and other unsweetened liquids every day. Drink more of this during hot weather and when doing heavy physical exercise. Such liquids aids digestion, and cleanse the body of poisons, make for healthier skin, and facilitate weight loss.

TAKE CARE OF BASIC BODY NEEDS– The demands and distractions of modern life have whittled away the time people spend sleeping. But sleep is germane to good health. Studies have shown that during sleep, our body and brain repair themselves, which benefiting memory and mood. Sleep reinforces the immune system and reduces our risk of infections, diabetes, stroke, heart disease, cancer, obesity, depression and so on. Most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep every night to feel good and perform their best. Young people need more.

KEEP YOURSELF MOVING– Leading a physically active life can help us feel happier, think more clearly, have more energy, be more productive and, along with proper diet, control our weight. Exercise needs not be painful or extreme to be effective. Regular periods of moderate exercise several weeks can be beneficial. Jogging, brisk walking, biking can help prevent heart attack and stroke. Simply using your feet instead of a car, bus or elevator is a good step. Why wait for a ride when you can walk to your destination? No matter how old you are and when you start, you can benefit from moderate physical exercise. If you are older or have health problems and have not been exercising, it is wise to consult a doctor about how to begin. But do begin! Exercise that is started gradually and not overdone can help even the oldest to maintain muscle strength and bone mass.

PROTECT YOUR HEALTH– ”Hand washing is the single most important thing that you can do to help prevent the spread of infections and stay healthy and well”, reports the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As much as 80 percent of infections are said to be passed on by unclean hands. So wash them often throughout the day. Do so especially before eating, preparing food, or dressing or even touching a wound, and do so after touching an animal, using the toilet, or changing a baby’s diaper. Washing with soap and water is more effective than using alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Bathing everyday and keeping one’s clothes and bed linens fresh and clean also contribute to better health. Avoid close physical contact or sharing of eating utensils with any who have a cold or the flu. Their saliva and nasal secretions can pass the illness to you. Avoid insect bites. Do not sit or sleep outdoors unprotected when mosquitoes or other disease-carrying insects are active. Use bed nets especially for children, and use repellents. Make whatever effort is required to keep your home clean, inside and out. If there is no toilet, build a simple latrine rather than just relieving yourself in a field. Cover the latrine to keep out flies. Obey safety laws when working, riding a bicycle or motorcycle, or driving a car. Use appropriate protective equipments such as safety glasses, headgear, and footwear, as well as seat belts and hearing protection. Avoid excessive sun exposure, which causes cancer and premature aging of the skin.

How to Avoid Mistakes in Life by Learning from the Stories of Others

How to Avoid Life-threatening Mistakes by Learning from the Stories of Others

In Africa, stories are used to teach morals, to entertain, and to uphold core values as a people. At this phase of our development when we are faced with a lot of challenging situations, what we need are stories of hope, not stories of turmoil, crisis and despondency. For this reason, I shall be running stories that are capable of turning your lives around in this series.  The title of today’s story is: “An Interesting Funeral”

One day all the employees of a very unusual company reached their office and all saw a big sign on the main door which said:

‘Yesterday, the person who was hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym.’

In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that person who hindered the growth of their colleagues and the company itself?

The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room. The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up.

Everyone thought – ‘Who is this person who was hindering my progress?’

One by one the intrigued employees got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it, they suddenly became speechless.

They stood near the coffin in shock and in silence. There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see themselves! There was also a sign next to the mirror that said. . .

‘There is only one person who is capable of setting limits to your growth and IT IS YOU!’

Moral Lesson

Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your husband or wife changes, when your company changes, when your church changes, when your location changes, when your money changes, when your status changes . . .

No, your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs.

Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don’t be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses. Be a winner; build yourself and your reality. It’s the way you face life that makes the difference.

CREATEing IDEAs for AFRICAn Development

Even though poor leadership is primarily responsible for the slow and epileptic development of the African continent, in my view, another factor responsible for Africa’s marginal position is lack of creativity and idea generation. Economically, African countries are known to be ‘consuming nations’, absorbing products or goods from Asia and the West for local consumption. Products ranging from automobiles, electronics, shoes, beverages and so on are shipped in tons annually to Africa countries. This is the reason the currencies of African nations are at the mercy of their foreign counterparts such as the dollar, the pounds sterling, and the yen. Moreover, developing economies are usually at a disadvantage economically with respect to the balance of trade and payments. Paradoxically, most African countries produce what they do not consume and consume what they do not produce. It is high time Africans and other developing economies learnt to proffer scientific, economic and social solutions to our challenges.

How can you revive the yearning for creativity?

To this end, I would like to share what I feel can spark up a deep yearning for creativity. I would like us to look at what we can learn from the letters in A.F.R.I.C.A, C.R.E.A.T.E and I.D.E.A.

AFRICA: A Land, Full of Resources, Intellectuals, Committers, and Achievers. The African continent is endowed with resources such as oil, gas, minerals; intellectuals such as Kofi Annan, Nelson Mandela, Wole Soyinka; committers as demonstrated recently by the people of Egypt in the ousting of the 30-year dictator Hosni Mubarak ; Achievers such as Barrack Obama, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and so on.

CREATIVITY: Conceive, Reflect, Expound, Articulate Think, In-depth, Visualize, and Establish. Regardless of your particular undertaking, your status in life or age, you must learn to be creative and the way you do this is by conceiving an idea, reflecting on the idea, taking time to expound on the idea, articulate on the idea, think on the idea in-depth, visualize the idea and finally establish the idea.

IDEA: I– in depth Deliberations, Endears and Actions. Ideas have been the basis for many creative writings in the world. Phrases such as ‘Ideas rules the World’ are commonly used by speakers and writers the world over to emphasize the pivotal role of idea generation in the development of an individual and nations.

As stressed earlier, it is important that as a people, we embrace ideas and creativity for the development of our continent. The development of the West and other regions of the world were built on IDEAs and CREATIVITY. A call goes out to African leaders, especially the African Union, to leave up to the expectations of the African people. Around the world, Africans are known to be exceptional people. However, the structures and the enabling environment required for this to thrive at home are hardly in place and this is the reason most African ‘brains’ end up in the Diaspora. The A.U and sub-regional bodies such as ECOWAS, SADC must formulate long-term developmental policies, especially in the areas of science and technology that are necessary for the development of the continent. We can take a clue from what the European Union and the Asian Tigers have been able to achieve in their respective regions. If they can do it, we can also do it with sheer determination and commitment. Similarly, the private sector, the media and NGOs must stand up to play their role. It is our collective responsibility as people to join hands and move the continent to where we would like to see it.

I resent a common school of thought that expects the government to do everything to meet the expectations of the people. It is imperative that we as individuals give serious thought to what we can give back to our nation and continent. Individually, we owe our respective countries our quota towards their development. Developments in the big economies around the world were built on the creativity of their citizens who believed in their countries and invested their ideas and resources in the development of their countries. It is time for all of us to rise up and wholly embrace the concept of IDEAs and CREATIVITY for mutual development. Long live Africa, Long live our Mother Land.
